AS THE RECOGNIZED GOVERNING BODY FOR BASKETBALL IN THE UNITED STATES BY THE INTERNATIONAL BASKETBALL FEDERATION (FIBA) AND THE UNITED STATES OLYMPIC & PARALYMPIC COMMITTEE (USOPC), USA BASKETBALL IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SELECTION, TRAINING AND FIELDING OF USA NATIONAL TEAMS THAT COMPETE IN FIBA-SPONSORED FIVE-ON-FIVE, 3X3 AND ESPORT INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS.

The AAU was founded in 1888 to establish standards and uniformity in amateur sports. During its early years, the AAU served as a leader in international sport representing the U.S. in the international sports federations. The AAU worked closely with the Olympic movement to prepare athletes for the Olympic Games. After the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, the AAU has focused its efforts into providing sports programs for all participants of all ages beginning at the grass roots level. The philosophy of “Sports for All, Forever,” is shared by nearly 700,000 participants and over 150,000 volunteers.

The Original PROFENDER was invented by Tony Devine, a teacher and coach, while looking for a basketball training device for his son Devon. While searching online, he became very frustrated with the gimmicky types of products displayed on the internet. After an endless search he realized that all of the products had one fault in common, they were all stationary devices that did not simulate real game situations. He set out to create a basketball training aid that would simulate real game situations and after years of building a prototype and testing materials The Original PROFENDER was born.

What is the NWBA? The National Wheelchair Basketball Association is the longest standing and largest Disabled Sports Organization in the world. It was founded in 1949 to provide individuals with physical disabilities the opportunity to play and learn wheelchair basketball.

What does the NWBA do? We are the organization that is responsible for growing and developing wheelchair basketball in the United States, and the selection and training of the Paralympic and Parapan Am Games teams, as well as major international competitions. The U.S. Olympic Committee’s Paralympic Division and the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation recognize the NWBA as the governing body for the United States. 

What is the NWBA’s reach? The NWBA is currently in 42 states and has nearly 3,000 members and 225-plus teams. We have divisions for Men, Women, High Performance, Collegiate, Division I, Division II, Division III, Junior and Prep.

How many Competitions are there? There are nearly 200 NWBA sanctioned competitions annually throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Ontario and Quebec. The NWBA season is from October to April, culminating in the National Tournament. NWBA events, competitions and deadlines can be found on the events calendar
